My artworks are often motivated by personal history, creating narratives that are both, at once, intimate and universal.  My pieces, many of them self-portraits, pay tribute to the handwork that was a significant factor in my upbringing and development as an artist. The collages with a multitude of textures and colors reference familial craft traditions such as machine and hand embroidery, applique, patchworking and quilting.  Filled with visual playfulness and poetry created by an immediacy, spontaneity and directness involved in my process of artmaking, I create works that live in the moment.  With a rich vocabulary of contemporary images and vintage materials as inspirations, my artwork’s subjects are stimulating conversation between the past and present.
